Frequency measures repetitions over time
One hertz means one cycle or event per second. Kilohertz, megahertz, and gigahertz are decimal SI multiples: one thousand, one million, and one billion hertz. Revolutions per minute expresses rotations over sixty seconds, so 60 rpm equals 1 Hz when each revolution represents one cycle.
Conversion method
The tool first converts the entered amount to hertz. It then divides by the target unit's hertz factor. This two-step method keeps conversions consistent in either direction. Results use up to twelve significant digits so very large and very small unit changes remain readable.
Worked example
A frequency of 2.4 gigahertz is 2,400 megahertz, 2,400,000 kilohertz, or 2,400,000,000 hertz. A shaft turning at 1,800 rpm completes 30 revolutions each second, so its rotational frequency is 30 Hz.
Cycles and events must match
Frequency conversion does not determine how many electrical pulses, gear teeth, samples, or events occur during one mechanical revolution. If a sensor emits twelve pulses per revolution, pulse frequency is twelve times rotational frequency. Apply that relationship separately before or after converting units.
Frequency is not bandwidth or data speed
A carrier frequency does not directly state channel bandwidth, sample rate, clock performance, or information throughput. Those quantities may also use per-second units but describe different jobs. Keep the physical meaning attached to the number when comparing specifications.
Assumptions and limitations
Factors are exact decimal definitions. Display rounding can shorten repeating results, and floating-point arithmetic can introduce tiny last-digit differences. The converter does not model angular frequency in radians per second, wavelength, harmonics, tolerance, slip, or equipment behavior.
