Conversion method
Each source value is multiplied by its exact or defined meters-per-second factor, then divided by the destination factor. One kilometer per hour equals 0.2777777778 meters per second. One mile per hour equals exactly 0.44704 meters per second, and one knot equals 0.5144444444 meters per second.
Worked example
Convert 60 miles per hour to kilometers per hour. Multiplying 60 by 0.44704 gives 26.8224 meters per second. Dividing by the kilometer-per-hour factor gives 96.56064 km/h. The displayed result retains useful precision without filling the page with floating-point noise.
Speed is not pace
Speed describes distance per unit of time. Running pace commonly reverses that relationship and reports time per distance, such as minutes per mile. Acceleration describes how speed changes over time. This page converts speed units only and does not calculate either pace or acceleration.
Assumptions and limitations
Values must be finite and nonnegative. The tool does not measure current motion, read GPS, calculate travel time, apply wind or current, enforce speed limits, or distinguish ground speed from airspeed. Results use JavaScript number precision and are rounded for display. Do not treat a converted dashboard value as a calibrated instrument reading.
