Conversions use liters as the bridge

Each unit has a fixed factor in liters. The source value is multiplied by its factor, then divided by the destination factor. One liter equals 1,000 milliliters, and one cubic meter equals 1,000 liters.

US and imperial units differ

A US liquid gallon is exactly 3.785411784 liters. An imperial gallon is exactly 4.54609 liters, so the word “gallon” alone is ambiguous. US cups, pints, quarts, fluid ounces, and gallons here use US liquid definitions; imperial gallon is offered separately.

Worked example

Two US gallons equal 7.570823568 liters because 2 × 3.785411784 = 7.570823568. Converting two imperial gallons instead gives 9.09218 liters. Choosing the correct system matters more than adding extra decimal places.

Precision and useful rounding

Output keeps up to twelve significant digits, enough for ordinary conversion without flooding the page with floating-point noise. Round later according to the measuring vessel or job. A kitchen cup, marked bucket, and laboratory cylinder do not offer equal real-world precision.

Assumptions and limitations

This tool converts volume only. It does not convert an ingredient to weight, infer container capacity, account for temperature expansion, interpret recipes, or measure an irregular object. Zero is valid; negative physical volume is rejected. Browser decimal arithmetic can show tiny representation differences at extreme magnitudes.
