Choose a start date and enter a positive number to move forward or a negative number to move backward. Saturdays and Sundays are skipped.
What counts as a business day
This calculator uses a simple weekday calendar: Monday through Friday count, while Saturday and Sunday do not. This convention is useful for planning routine turnaround times, delivery estimates, review windows, and work schedules when no holiday calendar is required.
How the calculation works
A positive number moves forward one calendar date at a time and reduces the remaining count only on weekdays. A negative number uses the same rule while moving backward. Zero returns the starting date. By default, counting begins after the starting date; the optional checkbox lets a weekday start date consume the first business day.
Worked example
Start on Friday, July 17, 2026 and add three business days without counting the start date. Saturday and Sunday are skipped. Monday is day one, Tuesday is day two, and Wednesday is day three, producing July 22, 2026. If the start-date option is enabled, Friday becomes day one and the result moves to Tuesday, July 21.
Assumptions and holidays
No public, bank, regional, religious, or company holidays are removed. A day can also be nonworking for one organization but working for another. If a deadline is governed by a contract, court, government office, carrier, school, or employer, use its official calendar rather than relying on a generic weekday result.
Common mistakes
Confirm whether the starting day should count and whether the stated period means weekdays or true business days excluding holidays. Also distinguish “within three business days” from a deadline at a particular time of day. This page calculates dates, not business hours, cutoff times, or time zones.
Accuracy and limitations
Dates are constructed in the browser’s local calendar without time-of-day values, which avoids daylight-saving-hour changes affecting day counts. The result does not provide legal deadline guidance, service guarantees, or holiday data.
