Alternate focused work and breaks

Set focus, short-break, long-break, and cycle values. Start the current phase, pause when interrupted, skip when appropriate, or reset the sequence. At natural completion, the chime repeats and the browser tab flashes until you select Stop alert. The first Start may also offer optional browser notifications without delaying the phase.

How the cycle works

The default sequence uses 25 minutes of focus followed by a five-minute break. After four completed focus sessions, the next break lasts 15 minutes. Finishing or skipping a break returns to focus. Naturally completed phases trigger a repeating chime and flashing tab until Stop alert is selected; optional browser notifications can identify what comes next.

Worked example

With 25-minute focus, five-minute short breaks, a 15-minute long break, and four cycles, the sequence is Focus 1, short break, Focus 2, short break, Focus 3, short break, Focus 4, then long break. The completed counter increases when a focus phase ends or is skipped.

Use intervals as structure, not pressure

Before starting, choose one concrete task and remove avoidable interruptions. During the break, change posture, rest your eyes, or prepare the next step. If 25 minutes repeatedly interrupts deep work, choose a longer focus value. If sustaining attention is difficult, begin shorter. The useful interval is one that supports the work without encouraging pain or exhaustion.

Timing behavior

The page calculates remaining time from a monotonic deadline instead of counting interval callbacks. Hidden-tab throttling can delay visible updates, after which the display catches up. Browser suspension, page closure, device sleep, or a discarded mobile tab can still stop the workflow. On the first Start, the phase begins before optional notification permission is requested. The timer does not keep the screen awake.

Privacy and limitations

Durations, cycle count, volume, mute selection, and whether the one-time notification offer was shown are stored locally as preferences. Task names, accounts, analytics, cloud history, and public statistics are not used. Completed-session count lasts only for the current page. Browsers and operating systems can suppress sound or notifications. This is a flexible productivity aid, not a treatment for attention, sleep, stress, or other health concerns.

Pomodoro Timer FAQ

Must focus sessions be 25 minutes?

No. That is a familiar default, and the controls support other practical durations.

What does Skip phase do?

It advances the sequence immediately; skipping focus also increments the completed-focus count. Skipping does not sound the completion alarm.

Are my settings uploaded?

No. They are saved only in local browser storage.
