Total as many clock intervals as you need

Enter each paid work period as its own clock-in and clock-out row. Use Add time entry for lunch returns, split shifts, or additional days, and remove unused rows. Select Calculate hours for combined hours and minutes plus decimal hours.

What each entry represents

One row is one continuous paid interval. If you work from 9:00 AM to noon, clock out for lunch, then work from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM, enter two rows. This mirrors the actual punches and avoids guessing a single break deduction. Add entries for additional breaks, split shifts, or days as needed.

Hours and decimal hours

Hours-and-minutes notation is convenient for schedules; decimal hours are common in timesheets. Thirty minutes equals 0.50 hour, while 45 minutes equals 0.75 hour. A display of 37 hours 30 minutes therefore becomes 37.50 decimal hours. Minutes are divided by 60, not written as digits after a decimal point.

Worked example: lunch

Enter 9:00 AM to noon in the first row and 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM in the second. The first interval is 3 hours and the second is 4 hours 30 minutes, producing 7 hours 30 minutes, or 7.50 decimal hours. The 30-minute lunch is naturally excluded because no entry covers it.

Overnight entries

If clock-out is earlier than clock-in, the calculator assumes that entry crosses midnight once. A 10:00 PM start and 6:00 AM finish is eight hours. This convention cannot represent one entry lasting more than 24 hours, and identical start and end times are rejected rather than interpreted as a full day.

Assumptions and limitations

The calculator adds up to 50 entered intervals without dates, time zones, daylight-saving changes, paid-break rules, punch rounding, or overtime categories. Rows need both times or neither. This page is a personal arithmetic aid, not an official payroll record or interpretation of workplace policy.

Checking a time card

Keep entries in the same order as the original punches so they are easy to compare, although calculation does not require chronological order. Watch for overlapping intervals, because this tool adds every row and cannot know that two entries cover the same minutes. Confirm any rounding or paid-break policy with the actual organization.
