What credit hours represent
A credit hour is an institution-defined measure attached to a course or academic activity. It is not the same as a clock hour spent in class, a grade point, or a guarantee that work applies to a particular requirement. This page adds the values you enter without interpreting a catalog.
Calculation method
Current-course credits are summed, then added to previously completed credits. Remaining credits equal the target minus that projected total, with a minimum of zero. Progress is projected credits divided by target and is capped at 100 percent for display.
Worked example
Suppose 72 credits are complete and four current courses carry 3, 4, 3, and 1 credits. The course load totals 11 and the projected completed total is 83. Against a 120-credit target, the arithmetic remainder is 37 credits and projected progress is 69.17 percent.
Credits do not all apply the same way
A program may require particular general education, major, residency, upper-level, laboratory, internship, or elective credits. Transfer, repeated, remedial, pass/fail, withdrawn, audited, and in-progress courses may receive different treatment. A high total can still leave unmet requirements.
Use official records for planning
Compare results with the institution's degree audit, catalog, transcript evaluation, and advisor guidance. Confirm whether a current course is likely to count before relying on it. Enrollment definitions such as full-time and part-time also vary by program, level, term, and policy; this tool does not label course load.
Limitations and privacy
The page does not calculate GPA, quality points, tuition, workload, time to graduation, prerequisites, financial-aid eligibility, or academic standing. It accepts nonnegative decimal values because some programs use fractional credits. Inputs stay in this browser.
