Frame the part of the image you need

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP image. Drag and resize the crop selection, use a common aspect ratio or free crop, and zoom or rotate the source when needed. Choose the output format and quality, select Crop image, then inspect and download the result.

Free crop and fixed ratios

Free crop lets width and height change independently. A 1:1 square is useful for profile images and product thumbnails, 16:9 fits common video frames, 4:3 matches many photographs, and 4:5 is common for portrait posts. A ratio controls shape, not final pixel dimensions; the selected source area determines those.

Zoom, rotate, and reset

Zoom changes how much of the source fits under the crop area. Rotation turns the image in 90-degree steps so landscape and portrait framing can be corrected before export. Reset returns the interactive crop elements to their initial state. These controls modify only the pending result and never overwrite the selected source file.

Worked example crop

A 2400 × 1600 landscape photograph needs a centered square avatar. Choose the 1:1 ratio, move the selection over the subject, and size it to roughly 1200 × 1200 source pixels. Select JPEG at quality 88 for a photograph. The download contains only that square region and keeps no pixels outside it.

Choosing the export format

JPEG is compact for photographs but replaces transparent pixels with white. PNG retains transparency and sharp edges with lossless encoding. WebP supports transparency and offers adjustable lossy quality. Changing the format can alter file size substantially even when crop dimensions are identical. Keep a master copy before editing.

Local processing and metadata

The crop interface and codecs are stored with this site and run in the browser. Your image is not uploaded. Export normally strips EXIF camera and GPS metadata while applying the displayed orientation to pixels. Cropping may reduce file size because fewer pixels remain, but output format and quality also matter.

Limitations and assumptions

The input must be a static JPG, PNG, or WebP no larger than 30 MB or 40 megapixels. Animated images are rejected. Extremely small crops can look blurry when displayed large. Rotation and re-encoding do not reconstruct lost detail. Touch precision depends on screen size, so a larger display can help with exact edges.

Why is transparent JPEG output white?

JPEG has no transparency, so transparent pixels need an opaque replacement.
