Visual crop limitations
The editor shows the first frame, so leave room for subjects that move later in the animation. GIF files retain a rectangular canvas. Transparent corners make a circle crop appear round, but GIF transparency is all-or-nothing and cannot produce the partially transparent edge pixels available in PNG.
How crop coordinates work
Left and top locate the crop rectangle from the source animation’s upper-left corner. Width and height define the new canvas. A left value of 40 removes the first 40 columns before the selected region begins. Values are measured in pixels and the full rectangle must remain inside the source.
Worked example: remove a recording border
A 720 × 480 screen recording has a 20-pixel border on every edge. Enter left 20, top 20, width 680, and height 440. Every frame receives the same crop, so controls and movement remain aligned while the border disappears.
Use a stable region for moving content
Watch the complete source before choosing coordinates. A subject near the center in frame one may move toward an edge later. This tool does not track faces, objects, or cursor position. Leave enough padding for the animation’s widest movement and any text that appears only near the end.
Cropping versus resizing
Cropping removes pixels outside a rectangle without squeezing the selected region. Resizing keeps the whole frame but changes its dimensions. Crop first when removing an unwanted border or isolating an area, then use the GIF Resizer if the remaining animation needs exact output dimensions.
Privacy and re-encoding limits
Processing stays local. The GIF is decoded, composited, cropped, and rebuilt. Frame timing remains approximately the same and indexed colors are recalculated. Non-circle transformations flatten existing transparent areas against white. Circle crops can encode transparent corners or fill them with white, black, or a selected color. Inputs are limited to 50 MB, 800 frames, and 2,000 pixels per side.

No. One consistent rectangle prevents the output canvas from jumping between frames.
Why was my crop rejected?
Its position or size extended beyond the source dimensions. Reduce width or height, or move the left and top offsets inward.
Does cropping reduce file size?
Usually, because fewer pixels remain, but encoding structure and colors also affect size.
