Image sequence versus video source

An image sequence gives direct control over each frame and works well for slides, diagrams, product steps, and simple stop motion. A video source is sampled at the chosen frame interval for up to eight seconds and 80 frames. GIF is best for short silent loops; it does not carry audio.

Worked example: three-step product demo

Select three screenshots showing an empty form, completed fields, and the final result. Set frame duration to 800 milliseconds and width to 640 pixels. The output holds each screenshot long enough to read, loops continuously, and can be embedded where video playback controls would be distracting.

Frame duration controls the pace

A value of 500 milliseconds displays two frames per second. Shorter durations create smoother motion but generate more frames from video and may produce a larger file. Longer durations suit instructions and before-and-after comparisons. Browsers may clamp extremely short GIF delays, so this tool uses a 20-millisecond minimum.

Image sizes and shared canvas

The first output width applies to every selected image. Each source keeps its own aspect ratio, and the tallest resulting frame establishes the animation canvas. Shorter frames receive a white background around unused space. For a tidy slideshow, crop sources to a common ratio before building the GIF.

Privacy, color, and limits

Nothing is uploaded. The encoder reduces frames to an indexed palette, which suits screenshots and illustration better than complex photographic gradients. Image sequences are limited to 80 selected files; video sampling stops at eight seconds or 80 frames. Output width is capped at 1,200 pixels to keep browser memory use reasonable.

GIF maker FAQ

Can the GIF include sound?

No. GIF has no audio track. Use video when sound matters.

Why is my video GIF large?

Photographic frames are expensive in GIF. Reduce width or increase frame duration, then use the GIF Compressor.

Can I reorder images?

The browser uses picker order. Rename files with numeric prefixes before selection when order is important.
