Turn a GIF loop into an MP4 video

Choose an animated GIF, review its source duration, and select how many times the animation should repeat in the MP4. The estimated duration updates before conversion. Select Convert GIF to MP4 to load the local WebAssembly video encoder and prepare a genuine MP4 download. The first conversion may take longer while the encoder loads from this site.

Why MP4 can be more practical than GIF

GIF stores indexed image frames and is inefficient for photographic motion. MP4 uses inter-frame video compression, which can produce a much smaller file for the same visual sequence. Social platforms, presentation software, and content systems may also handle MP4 more reliably than large animated GIFs.

Worked example: make a short GIF easier to play

A four-frame GIF may last only 0.2 seconds. A single-cycle MP4 reaches its end almost immediately and can appear static in some players. Repeating that source five times creates an approximately one-second video while preserving the animation sequence. Longer source GIFs may need only one repetition.

Playback and looping behavior

The animation’s frame timing becomes a video timeline. GIF loop metadata does not make an MP4 loop automatically. This converter can repeat the source sequence from 1 through 100 times, up to a five-minute output, but the resulting MP4 still has a definite end. Continuous looping is controlled by the player or embedding page. MP4 supports audio, but a GIF has no audio track, so this output remains silent.

Local encoder and download size

FFmpeg WebAssembly is served from Awesome Tools and runs in this tab. The encoder runtime is much larger than ordinary page JavaScript, so the first load may take several seconds. No source file is uploaded. Reloading the page clears encoder memory and temporary files.

Compatibility and limits

The output uses H.264 Baseline, yuv420p pixels, even dimensions, a 30 fps video timeline, and fast-start metadata for common playback support. Results can still vary by player, unusual GIF timing, damaged files, or very large animations. This page accepts files up to 50 MB. Keep the original because conversion does not preserve GIF metadata, transparency, or editing information.

GIF to MP4 FAQ

Is the download really MP4?

Yes. A local FFmpeg encoder creates an MP4 container; the page does not rename a WebM file.

Will the MP4 loop forever?

Not by itself. Repetitions create a longer finite video. Enable looping in the video player or HTML embed for continuous playback.

Why is the first conversion slow?

The browser must load and initialize the local video encoder before processing.
