What image metadata can reveal
Photos may contain EXIF camera settings, capture time, GPS coordinates, device model, editing-software names, comments, thumbnails, copyright fields, or XMP records. Not every image contains these fields, and many social networks already remove some of them. A local clean copy gives you control before sharing through email, forms, forums, or public storage.
How lossless removal works
The tool rebuilds the image container without common metadata segments or chunks. JPEG scan data, PNG image-data chunks, and WebP image payloads remain unchanged. This avoids generation loss and preserves the original file format, although the cleaned file size can be smaller.
EXIF orientation warning
Some phone JPEGs store camera pixels sideways and rely on an EXIF orientation tag for correct display. Removing that tag without re-encoding pixels can make the clean copy appear rotated. Rotate the image first when correct orientation matters, understanding that rotation creates a new encoding.

Visible information is not metadata
Metadata removal cannot remove a street sign, reflection, face, document number, license plate, or location visible in the pixels. It also does not guarantee anonymity: filenames, upload accounts, surrounding text, and server logs can reveal context. Formats and privacy
JPEG cleaning removes common application metadata and comments while retaining structural segments used for decoding. PNG cleaning removes common text, EXIF, time, and embedded-profile chunks. WebP cleaning removes EXIF, XMP, and embedded-profile chunks. Files remain in browser memory and are not sent to a cleanup API.
Limitations and assumptions
The concise summary identifies detected metadata groups but does not decode every field. Use Image Metadata Viewer for the detailed report. The remover does not cryptographically prove erasure, overwrite the original file, or sanitize metadata stored outside the image. Each file is limited to 30 MB. Animated PNG and WebP are rejected. Removing embedded color profiles can change appearance in unusual color-managed workflows.
