Static images only. Processing happens on this device.

The viewer reads metadata locally and does not change selected files.

Inspect metadata without changing images

Choose one or more JPG, PNG, or WebP files, then select View metadata. The viewer lists readable EXIF and GPS fields plus detected XMP, IPTC, comments, text chunks, timestamps, and embedded color profiles. Files stay in your browser and are never rewritten.

What the metadata report shows

When present, the report can show camera make and model, image description, software, date taken, exposure, aperture, ISO, focal length, orientation, copyright, artist, and GPS fields. It also identifies metadata containers whose complete internal structure is not decoded, such as XMP, IPTC, compressed PNG text, and ICC color profiles.

Worked example: check several photos together

Batch selection makes it easier to compare images from a phone, camera, editor, or download folder. Every file receives its own report. A photo with no detected removable metadata is labeled clearly instead of displaying an empty table.

GPS and privacy checks

GPS latitude and longitude can reveal where a photo was captured. Location references and coordinates may appear as separate values because that is how EXIF stores them. Absence from this report does not prove a file or sharing service contains no other identifying information.

Dates and camera details

Capture dates are often plain EXIF text and may not include a time zone. Modified dates can describe later software activity rather than the original shutter time. Camera model, lens, exposure, ISO, and focal-length fields are descriptive records and can be missing, edited, or inaccurate.

Metadata versus visible pixels

This viewer reads information stored around image pixels. It cannot identify addresses, faces, license plates, reflections, document numbers, or landmarks visible inside the picture. Review the image itself before sharing sensitive material.

Local processing and supported formats

Parsing happens on this device. JPG metadata is read from common application and comment segments. PNG metadata is read from EXIF, text, time, and profile chunks. WebP metadata is read from EXIF, XMP, and profile chunks. Each input may be at most 30 MB.

Limitations and assumptions

Maker notes, proprietary camera records, every XMP namespace, compressed text contents, embedded thumbnails, and every IPTC field are not fully decoded. Malformed containers are rejected. Use specialist forensic software when exact provenance or legal evidence matters.

Image Metadata Viewer FAQ

Does viewing metadata upload my photos?

No. File bytes are read locally in the browser.

Does this tool remove metadata?

No. Use Image Metadata Remover to create cleaned copies.

Why does my photo show no metadata?

The camera, editor, download service, or social network may not have stored it or may already have removed it.
