Pixelate all or part of one image

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP file. Set block size, then describe the region with X, Y, width, and height percentages. The defaults cover the full image. Select Pixelate image, inspect the result, and download the new file.

How percentage regions work

X measures from the left edge and Y measures from the top. Width and height describe how much of the image the region covers. For example, X 25%, Y 20%, width 50%, and height 40% covers a centered area across half the image width. Values are clipped at the right and bottom edges.

Choosing a pixel block size

Larger blocks hide more fine detail but make the edited region more obvious. Small blocks create a stylized low-resolution effect and may leave text or facial features recognizable. Block size is measured in source-image pixels, so the same value appears weaker on a very large photo than on a small screenshot.

Worked privacy example

A 1200 × 800 delivery photo contains a label around the center. Set X to 35, Y to 30, width to 30, height to 35, and block size to 28. Generate the result, then zoom in and confirm that names, barcodes, and numbers are no longer readable before sharing.

Pixelation is not guaranteed redaction

Pixelation alters visible pixels, but weak settings can leave patterns recoverable or recognizable. It is not a certified document-redaction method. For high-risk records, remove the sensitive region entirely with a solid opaque fill in a trusted editor, flatten the result, and verify the exported file. Also remove metadata when location or device details matter.

Local processing and output

The browser downsamples the chosen region and scales it back without smoothing, producing visible blocks. The rest of the image remains at its original dimensions. Files are not uploaded. Re-encoding normally omits EXIF, GPS, embedded thumbnails, comments, and color profiles.

Limitations and assumptions

Region controls are numeric percentages rather than a draggable rectangle. One rectangular region is processed per download; repeat with the result for several separate areas. The tool does not detect faces, license plates, or text automatically. Each static source is limited to 30 MB and 40 megapixels.

Does pixelation securely erase text?

Not necessarily. Use aggressive settings and verify, or use solid redaction for sensitive documents.
