QR Code Reader
QR Code Reader scan QR from screenshot decode QR image on computer read saved QR pictureRead a saved QR image
Choose a PNG, JPG, or WebP containing one QR code, or focus the tool and paste a screenshot. Press Read QR code to reveal its contents. Copy the result or download it as text. A decoded website receives a separate link that opens only when you choose it.
Useful when the code is already on your screen
A phone camera is convenient for a printed code, but less convenient when the code is saved on the same device. This reader accepts the image directly. It does not need camera permission, an account, or a second device. Clipboard image pasting depends on the browser and operating system; saving the screenshot and choosing the file is an alternative.
Worked example: checking a website code
Generate a QR code containing https://example.com/, save the PNG, and read it here. The text result should show that address. The optional link should name example.com and should not open by itself. A code containing an ordinary message instead produces that message without a website link. This distinction lets you inspect what the pattern actually encodes.
Getting a readable image
Keep the complete square and its surrounding blank border in the image. Avoid heavy JPEG compression, motion blur, angled photographs, or a tiny code surrounded by a huge screenshot. Crop closer if detection fails, without cutting off the border. The reader checks normal and inverted contrast, but decorated codes, covered modules, and poor contrast can still prevent recovery.
What decoded content can contain
QR codes can encode plain text, web addresses, network settings, contact details, and application-specific strings. This reader displays the content as text rather than executing it. Only HTTP and HTTPS addresses receive an optional clickable link. Other schemes remain text to copy deliberately. It does not join Wi-Fi networks, add contacts, install software, or run commands.
Privacy and limitations
Images are decoded in this browser tab using a local QR decoder. They are not uploaded by the tool. One code is returned per image; crop a sheet into individual codes when necessary. Inputs are limited to 20 MB, 24 million pixels, and 12,000 pixels per side. Very large images are reduced for decoding, so a tiny embedded code may need a closer crop. Decoding reveals data but cannot establish that a destination is trustworthy.
QR Code Reader FAQ
Does it read ordinary barcodes?
No. This page reads QR codes, not UPC, EAN, or other linear barcode formats.
Why does the destination redirect?
A QR code may contain a short link whose server redirects elsewhere. This tool shows the encoded address and does not follow or inspect that redirect.
Can I read a QR code inside a PDF?
Convert the relevant page to PNG or take a clear screenshot, then choose that image here.
