Make pages ready for folding

Choose a PDF in normal reading order, select the physical paper size and binding edge, then create the booklet. The tool pairs pages on landscape sheets and shows their front/back order. Download the result and print it double-sided at actual size with short-edge flipping.

Why the first and last pages share a sheet

A folded sheet has four page positions: two on its front and two on its back. Booklet imposition rearranges normal reading order so the sequence becomes correct after the stack is folded. This tool makes one nested, fold-and-staple booklet. It does not split a long document into separate signatures for bookbinding or compensate for the thickness of the folded paper.

Worked example: five source pages

Five pages need three blanks to reach a multiple of four. With left binding, sheet one has blank and page 1 on the front, then page 2 and blank on the back. Sheet two has blank and page 3 on the front, then pages 4 and 5 on the back. Two physical sheets produce eight booklet page positions. Right binding swaps the left and right positions on every printed side.

Page sizes and rotation

Choose Letter or A4 for the paper going into the printer, not for the final folded page. Each source page is fitted proportionally into half a landscape sheet with a small inset. Existing quarter-turn page rotation is honored. Mixed source sizes remain proportional and may receive different amounts of white space. Content is embedded as PDF page content rather than converted into a low-resolution screenshot.

Check one sheet before printing everything

Open the download in a PDF viewer. Use ordinary duplex printing, actual size or 100 percent, and flip on the short edge. Do not enable the viewer's booklet mode again because this file is already imposed. Printer drivers differ, especially for manual duplex feeds. Test the first front/back pair, fold it, and confirm orientation before printing the complete stack.

Limitations and document preparation

Choose a PDF up to 30 MB and 100 source pages. Encrypted PDFs need unlocking with the known password first. Forms and annotations, including link annotations, are rejected because embedding page artwork can omit interactive appearances. Flatten those features in a suitable PDF application before returning. Bookmarks, interactive links, signatures, accessibility structure, and document-level navigation are not carried into the new booklet. Keep the original for digital reading.
