Choose the right case style
Uppercase and lowercase preserve the original spacing and punctuation while changing letter case. Sentence case converts text to lowercase and capitalizes the first letter at the beginning and after common sentence-ending punctuation. Title Case is intended for ordinary English headings. Developer styles split text into words, remove intervening punctuation, and join those words as camelCase, snake_case, or kebab-case.
How conversion works
Developer modes recognize Unicode letters and numbers as word characters. Other characters become separators. Words are normalized to lowercase before joining, then camel case capitalizes every word after the first. Snake case joins with underscores; kebab case uses hyphens. Uppercase and lowercase use the browser’s locale-aware case conversion.
Worked example
Enter My sample heading!. Title Case returns My Sample Heading. Camel case returns mySampleHeading, snake case returns my_sample_heading, and kebab case returns my-sample-heading. The exclamation mark is retained in upper, lower, and sentence modes but removed from developer identifiers.
Title-case assumptions
The built-in Title Case keeps common short English articles, conjunctions, and prepositions lowercase when they occur inside a heading. The first and last words remain capitalized. Editorial systems such as AP, Chicago, MLA, and internal brand guides differ on which words to capitalize, particularly phrasal verbs, long prepositions, and words following punctuation.
Accuracy and limitations
Automatic conversion cannot infer proper names, trademarks, acronyms, intentional mixed case, or programming-language naming rules. Text such as iPhone, eBay, NASA, or XMLHttpRequest may need manual correction. Sentence detection is deliberately lightweight and can misinterpret abbreviations or decimal punctuation. Always review publishing copy and code identifiers before use.
