Correct a sideways or mirrored video
Choose and preview a video, select a rotation, a flip, or both, then press Transform Video. At least one change is required. The new MP4 keeps the source base name with a -rotated.mp4 suffix.
Rotation and flipping solve different problems
A 90-degree rotation turns a sideways frame upright and swaps width with height. A horizontal flip mirrors left and right, useful for correcting some front-camera recordings or matching a demonstration. A vertical flip exchanges top and bottom. Combining operations can produce a different result depending on order; this tool applies rotation first, then the selected flip.
Worked example: fix mirrored writing
If words on a whiteboard read backward but the frame is otherwise upright, choose no rotation and horizontal flip. If a portrait recording lies on its side, select 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise and leave flip set to none. Test a short source first when orientation is ambiguous.
Why this re-encodes video
Changing pixels requires decoding each frame, transforming it, and creating a new video stream. Output uses H.264 at balanced quality with AAC audio and MP4 fast-start metadata. This is different from changing an orientation metadata flag, which some players ignore and which would not reliably mirror pixels.
Predicting combined transformations
A 180-degree rotation is equivalent to both horizontal and vertical flips. Selecting 180 degrees plus one additional flip may therefore cancel one axis and leave the other. Use the simplest single operation that matches the visible problem. The original remains untouched, so compare both files before deleting anything.
Privacy and limitations
The local FFmpeg WebAssembly engine processes files up to 200 MB in this tab. Re-encoding can take time and slightly change visual quality. Multiple audio tracks, subtitles, chapters, rotation metadata, HDR data, and specialized codecs may not be preserved. The first ordinary video and audio streams become a broadly compatible MP4.
Rotate and Flip Video FAQ
Does rotating crop the picture?
No. A quarter turn swaps output dimensions rather than cutting the frame.
Will text become backward?
A horizontal flip mirrors text. Use it only when correcting an already mirrored source or when that effect is intentional.
Is the original changed?
No. The tool creates a separate download.
